About Us

We are the Scott County 4-H Sailing Club. Established September of 2007, we are the second 4-H sailing club in all of the United States! During the winter months we have worked on learning all we can about sailboats. This spring we plan to set sail in our sailboat, and hopefully build one on our own.

Our goals in starting this club-

·        Establish a 4-H sailing club in Scott County

·        Be able to identify all the major parts of a sailboat

     -know what each part does

·        Learn how to tie basic sailing knots

·        Learn the general rules of sailing

·        Learn Kentucky’s specific sailing laws

·        Learn different wind and weather patterns and how it affects sailing

·        Know what to do in case there is an emergency while on the boat

·        Learn how to prepare a boat for sailing

·        Learn different sailing techniques and terms

·        Learn how to care for a sailboat and maintain it through the year

·        Learn some of the history of sailing in the US

·        Know the different types of sailboats and their characteristics

Ultimate goal- Learn how to sail and be a responsible sailor, while having fun. :)
